PASTOR KURT HELLWIG
Pastor Kurt has served Mount Calvary Lutheran Church and Valley Lutheran High School since the summer of 2022. He grew up in Washington state and greatly enjoys the outdoors. He graduated with his Master’s in Divinity from Concordia Seminary St. Louis and his Bachelor’s in Finance at Concordia University Irvine. He is passionate about helping people belong in the local church.
Vicar Luther Ashkaba
Vicar Luther is the Lay Leader of the Eritrean Kunama Community at Mount Calvary. Luther was born into a Christian family in small village called Fode and raised up in town called Barentu. Luther graduated with an Associate degree in 1997 in Asmara, Eritrea. In 2005, Luther became a refugee in Ethiopia and met his wife and children. In 2008, they came to Phoenix through a Lutheran agency. In 2010, Luther started serving God, and in 2013, he began his ministry at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church.
Vicar AMANuel abdalla
Vicar Aman serves in the Kunama Community as a leader. He shepherds God's people, providing them with guidance, sustenance, and nurturing through preaching, teaching, and counseling. He takes his responsibility very seriously, aiming to effectively communicate God's word and minister to all spiritual needs. Furthermore, he strives to provide biblical leadership for the Church here in Phoenix, Arizona.
Andrew schroeder
Andrew Schroeder has blessed Mount Calvary with his gift of music since the summer of 2024. He comes to us from a family of church workers and servants in Indiana. Andrew is also the new music teacher at Valley Lutheran High School. He is newly married, and his wife, Mary, teaches math at Trinity Lutheran School. Andrew is especially gifted in singing, piano, guitar, and trombone. He enjoys playing both traditional and contemporary worship music.
